A few words from the photographer about each portfolio. Childscapes
Childhood is beyond a doubt my favorite subject to capture with my camera, mainly because it gives me a chance to be with kids, the best part of humanity. Childhood is not always idyllic, and some of my images reflect that. Fools I love fools. The images in this portfolio are from a book I foolishly made called The Book of Fools. The book is divided into six chapters – Fools in Love, Fools in Politics, Fools in Religion, Fools of All Ages, Fools for Animals, and The Inner Fool. I am presently seeking a publisher. In Our Image I find myself frequently photographing pretend people. Those on this website are some of my favorites. Some of these images are from my children’s picture book, The Doll Tender. I find people endlessly fascinating and love the collaboration between photographer and subject. I have never met anyone who doesn’t have a secret life, wishes, and dreams. Not all of them, of course, are wonderful. But all are worth visual exploration. Flowers Why does anyone photograph flowers? Because they’re beautiful. But what draws me to flowers beyond their obvious beauty is the worlds within them, the songs they sing, and the stories they tell.
Photojournalism I believe that as human beings we should try to make the world a better place. Photographs can give voice to those not heard and show people who can’t be present a glimpse into the stories happening everywhere. Edward Lear's limericks Edward Lear’s (1812-1888) work never ceases to amuse me. Born in His love of children and travel are apparent in both his art and writing. While he is perhaps best remembered for his nonsense verses—some of which I have illustrated in this portfolio—he was also recognized for his illustration of animals, particularly birds. Additionally, he published numerous illustrated books of the many places he visited. Despite his health problems, he led a life many of us would envy. He was loved by many; enjoyed artistic success and recognition during his lifetime; was widely published; had many friend, including Lord Tennyson and his wife; and even taught drawing lessons to Queen He often lamented that he never married nor had children of his own. However, his diaries and letters also express his relief that as a bachelor he didn’t suffer the many problems of matrimony and was rather glad he was single; proving, of course, his intelligence.
